Birkenstock Kärntnerstrasse

Birkenstock Vienna is located on Kärntnerstrasse, which links the downtown area with the city wall. It is a prominent location in Vienna and a main shopping thoroughfare since the Roman era. The Birkenstock retail concept is to adjust and adapt to the local surroundings. The space is divided into Women, Men, Classics, Heritage, Highlight, Cosmetics, and Kids’ zone. The design retains some of the classic features, like industrial shelving and rough-cut wooden tops.

The 122 sqm store is set in one of the historic buildings from the Roman era, which survived WWII and has a classical arch and vault structure. The challenge was to use these arches to integrate the wall fixtures and to arrange the floating furniture around these focal points with classical chandeliers which are reminders of the past. The black stone rendered façade with arches and rope hanging from the ceiling provides a unique store front to display the Birkenstock footwear.
