HOPE NOOK
Drawing inspiration from the selected site, and it´s architectural tradition, we used time-tested and locally sourced building materials in combination with practical and innovative technology. This micro home we like to call “Hope Nook” aims to seamlessly blend functionality, sustainability, and simplicity. Each Hope Nook is designed to be modular, allowing for easy assembly and customization to fit the unique needs of its inhabitants.
The heart of the design lay in its self-sufficiency and modular features. Solar panels, rainwater harvesting systems, composting toilets and greywater recycling systems combined with a multi-functional and customisable furniture and spatial concept can ensure efficient use and maintenance of the house.
The selected site has seen devastation in the past year brought by the earthquakes that struck 11 provinces in the southern-east region of Türkiye, including one of its provinces called Hatay, Antakya. By employing a method of construction and use of materials, lightweight, flexible and insulating enough, Hope Nook’s design is meant to be resilient in the face of future calamities and extreme weather conditions.
Its construction also meant to utilize the power of the community. Designed for easy assembly, it only needs a compassionate neighbour lending their time, expertise, and resources to help, and half of the work is done.
The vision is that Hope Nooks will spring up, like seeds of hope taking root in the barren earth. Locals displaced by disaster will soon find it a new place of hope. Young couples starting a life on their own can see promise in the land again, soon forging bonds with their neighbours, rebuilding a community, more resilient, and more united than ever.
The Hope Nooks hope to be not just a symbol of resilience, but a blueprint of a brighter, more sustainable future—one built on the foundations of compassion, innovation, and hope not only in the province of Hatay, Antakya in Türkiye, but in every place where hope is only a dream.
